Alan builds the Off-Road Race Buggy (42164)
Alan sent over a photo of his completed Off-Road Race Buggy build. The 42164 is at the smaller end of the Technic range at 219 pieces, but it packs in a working 4-cylinder engine, rear suspension, and flex steering that lets the buggy lean through corners.
A good one for an evening build when you want something satisfying without committing to a multi-session project.

For a set at this price point, the flex steering is a genuine highlight. The buggy tilts from side to side as it corners, mimicking the lean you get on a real off-road race vehicle. The 4-cylinder engine moves as the wheels turn. Small details, but they make it feel like a proper Technic model rather than just a display piece.
The 42164 is not currently in our subscription fleet, but sets like it are a good gateway into Technic. If you want to try a longer build, the Arctic Truck (42038) and Extreme Adventure (42069) are both in the fleet and share that same off-road DNA.
Alan has worked through enough of the library now that his photos are useful in a different way to product shots. They show the kit as a builder actually sees it: on a table, built in normal light, with the little mechanical details doing the talking.
If you have built Off-Road Race Buggy and spotted something I have missed, send it over. The member posts are better when they feel like a record of what people are actually building, not just a list of sets we happen to stock.
