1,478 pieces, finished on its Yamaha stand
One of our members built the Yamaha MT-10 SP (42159) and sent photos from the front and from the left-hand side, sat on its display stand. It is LEGO’s second 1:5 scale motorbike, after the BMW M 1000 RR (42130), and at 44 cm long and 25 cm high it takes a decent bit of shelf.
The left-hand side is the one to photograph. That is where the gold chain runs from the gearbox back to the rear wheel, and the side shot shows it along with the blue seven-spoke wheels, the drilled front brake disc and the MT-10 SP decal on the panel by the tank. The front view shows the rest of the colour: two gold fork legs either side of the tyre and the twin round headlights between them.
Inside the black panels there is a three-speed gearbox with neutral, worked from the left foot pedal, and an inline four driven from the rear wheel through the chain. Roll the bike and the pistons move. Nothing is motorised, and it steers from the handlebars.
The gearbox is the part to slow down for. The two azure shift drums have letters on their edges and the instructions show which way each one faces, with check pictures before you move on. Work the shifter by hand while the unit is still open, because once the panels are on you mostly see the red indicator ball stepping through the gears.
This is exactly why I like putting member builds on the blog. The official images tell you what a kit is supposed to look like. Member photos show what it feels like once someone has actually sat down, opened the bags, and worked through it.
If you have just finished the Yamaha MT-10 SP, send over a few photos. It does not need to be a full studio setup. A clean table, a finished build, and a few notes on what stood out are enough.
