Alan builds the Arctic Truck (42038)

Alan sent over his completed Arctic Truck build. The 42038 is one of those sets that impresses well beyond what the piece count suggests. 749 pieces, but eight-wheel drive with independent suspension on all four axles. Push it across a desk and every wheel articulates independently.

It is a quick build, probably two hours, but the engineering packed into it makes it feel like a much bigger project than it is.

What makes this one

The suspension. All eight wheels are independently sprung and the articulation across uneven surfaces is genuinely satisfying. The orange and white polar expedition colour scheme works well too. The set also has a Power Functions motor mount built into the chassis, so if you want to motorise it later the groundwork is already there.

The 42038 also has an alternate model on the box, a flatbed truck. If you want a second build from the same set, the instructions are on the LEGO website. For most subscribers the main model is plenty though, and Alan’s photos show it off well.

Alan builds the Off-Road Race Buggy (42164)

Alan sent over a photo of his completed Off-Road Race Buggy build. The 42164 is at the smaller end of the Technic range at 219 pieces, but it packs in a working 4-cylinder engine, rear suspension, and flex steering that lets the buggy lean through corners.

A good one for an evening build when you want something satisfying without committing to a multi-session project.

For a set at this price point, the flex steering is a genuine highlight. The buggy tilts from side to side as it corners, mimicking the lean you get on a real off-road race vehicle. The 4-cylinder engine moves as the wheels turn. Small details, but they make it feel like a proper Technic model rather than just a display piece.

LEGO Technic McLaren P1 (42172): Member Build

Set 42172

3,893 pieces. One of the best subscriber photo sets we’ve had.

One of our members built the McLaren P1 (42172) and sent 17 photos. We picked the best ones. The set is the biggest in the Brick Club library right now, and these photos do it justice.

The P1 is a licensed replica of the McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar at 1:8 scale. The orange and black livery matches the McLaren MSO spec. The build takes a long weekend if you pace it sensibly.

The V8 sub-assembly alone is a couple of hours. You can see 12 pistons moving through the rear once the bodywork is on. Most people spend a session just getting the engine block right before they start on anything else.

The dihedral doors

The signature feature. They open at the correct angle with a single motion, and the mechanism is one of the most satisfying in any Technic set. This member got a clean shot of both doors up at once. Worth seeing in person.

Kit notes

The P1 is the biggest kit in the library at 3,893 pieces. It is an Expert-rated build. The V8 sub-assembly is the trickiest section; the rest builds logically if you follow the instructions in order. The dihedral door mechanism requires patience but pays off. Rated 8-9 hours for an experienced Technic builder.

The V12 Icona. 3,778 pieces, one very good engine bay shot.

A Brick Club member built the Ferrari Daytona SP3 (42143) and sent photos. The kit is a licensed replica of the Daytona SP3, one of 499 units from Ferrari’s Icona series. The real car is a V12 hypercar. The LEGO version has a V12 with moving pistons you can see through the rear.

The red bodywork replicates the Daytona SP3’s long nose, fastback roof, and wide haunches. At 1:8 scale the proportions come through well.

499 units of the real car were built. The LEGO version captures the same visual drama – a long nose, wide rear haunches, and the V12 block sitting centrally behind the cockpit. The engine bay photo from this subscriber is one of the better ones we have seen from this kit.

McLaren MCL36, in papaya orange and LEGO bricks

One of our subscribers sent over photos of their completed McLaren Formula 1 Race Car (42141) and I had to share it. This is a proper build: 1,432 pieces, the 2022-spec MCL36 in that unmistakeable papaya orange, and enough technical detail to keep you occupied for a good stretch of an afternoon.

The 42141 sits in a nice spot in the Technic lineup. It’s not as involved as the flagship supercar sets, but it’s not a quick build either. Working double-wishbone pushrod suspension front and rear, an opening cockpit, and an adjustable front wing. The livery matches the 2022 Bahrain-spec car, Gulf-influenced elements and all.

Why it works as a gateway kit

The 42141 is the kit to recommend to F1 fans who want a proper Technic build without committing to a 3,000-piece flagship. The suspension geometry is accurate enough to be genuinely interesting, the papaya orange looks brilliant finished, and the detail-to-build-time ratio is hard to beat. It’s not as complex as the McLaren P1 (42172), but it’s a real build with real mechanics.

Our subscriber did a great job with it. If you’re an F1 fan and haven’t tried the 42141, it’s worth a go. The finished model looks the part on a shelf, and the build process is satisfying throughout.

Lamborghini Giallo, 806 pieces, an afternoon well spent

One of our subscribers built the Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica (42161) and sent over a couple of photos. The yellow is exactly what you want from a Lamborghini kit. That classic Giallo livery looks sharp in LEGO form, and the finished model has real presence despite being a compact build.

The 42161 is 806 pieces, which puts it in a different bracket to the Sian (42115) at 3,696. Both are Lamborghini, both are Technic, but the Tecnica is a two-to-three hour afternoon build rather than a multi-session project. Working V10 engine with piston movement, scissor-style opening doors, working steering. It gives you the Lambo experience in a more accessible package.

Tecnica vs Sian: both work

The Huracán Tecnica is the final evolution of the naturally aspirated Huracán platform, 640bhp V10. The LEGO version captures that compact, low-slung aggression well. If you want the full-fat multi-day build, the Sian (42115) is the one. But the 42161 is a proper Technic kit in its own right, not a cut-down version. Different pace, same Lamborghini DNA.

The subscriber’s build looks great. The yellow really does the job on this one. If you’ve already done the Sian and want something with less commitment but still that Lamborghini feel, the 42161 is a solid pick.

LEGO Technic Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car (42207) is in the library

LEGO Technic Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car 42207
LEGO Technic Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car (42207)

This post had the wrong body copy on it before. It was showing a completely different kit under a Ferrari SF-24 title, which is exactly the sort of thing I do not want sitting on the blog. This is the corrected version.

The Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car 42207 is the 2025 Technic Ferrari. LEGO announced it in November 2024 and released it on 1 March 2025. It is a 1:8 scale adult Technic model, 1,361 pieces, and it sits in the same modern F1 family as the Red Bull RB20 and McLaren F1 builds.

Library note

Ferrari red, proper F1 proportions

The first thing that matters with any F1 Technic set is whether the shape reads correctly. The SF-24 does. Long nose, tight sidepods, rear wing, Pirelli slick tyres, and enough body panel work that it feels like a display model once it is finished.

The functions are the reason it belongs in the library. You get front and rear suspension, steering, opening DRS, a V6 engine with a spinning MGU-H, and a 2-speed gearbox. That is plenty to keep the build interesting without turning it into a multi-week flagship.

Set number42207
Pieces1,361
Scale1:8
Age rating18+
Released1 March 2025

I like this one because it gives Ferrari fans a serious build without jumping straight to the Daytona SP3. The Daytona is a multi-evening event. The SF-24 is more focused: build the chassis, see how the suspension and gearbox fit together, then watch the red bodywork turn it into a recognisable race car.

It is not a member-build post. There were no Ferrari member photos in the old article, so I have treated it properly as a library/news post instead. If someone sends in finished SF-24 photos later, I will put those up as a separate member build.

Build note

The DRS and suspension are the parts I would pay attention to. They are the bits that make this more than a red display car, and they are the reason Technic fans tend to prefer the licensed F1 sets over simpler display models.

Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter (42145)

One of our subscribers built the Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter and sent this photo. 2,001 pieces, distinctive orange and white SAR livery, and a gear-driven winch mechanism that is genuinely one of the more satisfying things to operate in the Technic helicopter category.

The build takes a proper session to get through, but the result justifies it. Everything works together in a way that does not always happen with larger Technic sets.

LEGO Technic Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter 42145 built by a Brick Club member
Member build – Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter (42145)

The H175 is an Airbus SAR helicopter in real life, and the set captures the livery well. Orange and white with rescue markings, it is visually striking from across a room. The main rotor and tail rotor both spin when you push the model. The winch lowers a rescue hook via a gear mechanism on the side, and as the winch operates the collective pitch on the rotor adjusts automatically.

That winch-and-collective linkage is the highlight. It is the kind of mechanism that makes you stop and operate it a few times just to understand how it works. Opening side doors round out the functions without overcomplicating the build.

Kit note

The winch-and-collective pitch mechanism is one of the most elegant function combinations in any Technic helicopter. Both rotors, working winch, opening doors. At 2,001 pieces it is a substantial build, and it shows when you get to the finished model.

Black, angular, and very much not Technic

A member sent a photo of this one, and I was genuinely pleased to see it. The Batman Tumbler (76240) does not get as much attention as the Bugatti or the McLaren, but it is one of the more satisfying builds in the library. 2,049 pieces, most of them black, all of them going somewhere useful.

This is a LEGO set rather than a Technic set, the same family as the 1989 Batmobile (76139) that we also carry. If you liked that one, this is the obvious next step. If you have not built either, worth knowing the Tumbler is the Nolan-era vehicle and the Batmobile is the Tim Burton version. Different cars, different feel.

About the build

The Tumbler is a cross between a military vehicle and a stealth jet, all hard angles and black bodywork. The matte black finish stands out against the coloured Technic kits on the shelf. Opening canopy, jet exhaust at the rear, foldable wings, and four large rubber tyres on a wide tank-style track. No moving engine or gearbox here, but the structure is solid and the finished model is visually one of the most distinctive things we have.

The flat-6 that hangs out the back

A member sent over two photos of the Porsche 911 RSR (42096) recently built. Good shots of the car at different stages, including the rear where the flat-6 is clearly visible through the bodywork. That engine placement is the whole point of this kit. In the real 911 RSR, the flat-6 sits behind the rear axle, overhanging past the rear bumper. LEGO reproduced it faithfully, and you can see the moving pistons through the engine cover.

The 911 RSR is one of the endurance racing cars, competing at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring with the Porsche Motorsport works team. The livery on the LEGO version is white with red and black Porsche Motorsport stripes. It is a cleaner, more focused build than the big V12 supercars, which some members find more enjoyable.

The flat-6 is positioned behind the rear axle, not above it. That is the real Porsche configuration, and the reason the 911 handles the way it does.
